The MT1 and MT2 Series tables are a collaboration between Industrial Designer Michael Kritzer (www.alwaysgoodco.com) and Architect Nicolaas Wilkens. Speaking a common language, we designed the MT-Series tables to combine economy and stability with an approachable and functional presence for our shared office - allowing for a flexible work environment. The natural edge plywood top and legs allude to the manufacturing process and the warmth of wood. The powder coated working-edge steel frame acts as protector and support structure for both the wood top and the legs. The design is inherently relatable with details that are economical and approachable.
The MT2 tables, which come in round 48” and 36” diameter formats is the next evolution of the MT-Series tables. The round format:
Dilutes hierarchy by implying everyone is equal
Promotes collaboration and diplomacy
Is more conducive to communication - everyone is facing each other
Imply expediency - they are less formal
In designing the MT2 Series we are extending the same approachable and inherently understandable design qualities of MT1, this time through a round table format. The MT2 table design takes on characteristics that are visible through the same limited palette of 2 materials and the interplay of the materials’ economy and structural properties. In addressing the round qualities, we have also softened many of the steel and leg components.
By refining the table design through the lens of architecture and the fabrication process, a set of qualities addressing the varying needs of the everyday are met - be that at the office or in a home.
